All About Giant Pandas ( Page # 1 )
The Giant Panda is an endangered species. Actions must be taken to prevent them from becoming entirely extinct. We must all do our part to save the endangered species of this planet.
The Giant Panda is an amazing animal in a class all by itself. Giant Pandas are from China. In this giant panda website you will find panda bear pictures, free wall desktop wallpapers, free giant panda screensavers, free giant panda games and puzzles.
There are only eight adult Giant Pandas in the Unites states. There are three babies in the United States as well. When each of these babies turn three years old they will be sent to China as they are the property of China. Although they were born here they still belong to the country of China and are here just as a loan. Here you will find Giant Panda photos that I took at the San Diego Zoo including a baby Giant Panda cub. You will also find lots and lots of panda pictures I took at the Memphis Zoo. I especially love the Giant Panda exhibit at the zoo in Memphis. They have excellent inside and outside viewing areas and the staff does their best to provide regular enrichment for the giant pandas there.

The four AZA accredited zoos in the United States that currently display Giant Panda Bears are: 1) San Diego, CA 2) The Memphis Zoo in Memphis, TN 3) The Atlanta Zoo in Atlanta, GA 4) The National Zoo in Washington D.C. I have been blessed to see and photograph all of them except the ones in the National Zoo in Washington DC. Someday.....
(By the way, I will NOT visit unaccredited places that call themselves zoos as they are nothing more than a person's private collection, and most of the time the animals in those places are in poor situations.)

I wish all wild animals could live in the wild, where they belong. However, if some must live in captivity they should only be in accredited facilities and not in backyards and roadside 'zoos'. I find the exotic private pet trade flat disgusting.
The Giant Panda is a favorite animal for many folks. It looks so cute and cuddly, but it is a wild animal, that needs to be saved in the wild. The giant panda's hair is coarse and oily. This enables the giant panda to stay dry and warm in the wet and cold high mountain forests of China which are its home in the wild.
The Giant Panda Bear is a very endangered species. If you ever have a chance to see one in a zoo, please don't miss the opportunity to do so. The Chinese word "Daxiongmao" means the "large cat like bear". The Giant Panda bear is often used as a symbol of peace. There are very, very few giant pandas in the United States so don't pass up an opportunity to see one if you ever get the chance too.

An adult Giant Panda Bear is an average of 5-6 feet long. They are black and white. An adult giant panda bear usually weighs between 170 and 300 pounds. Actually they are about the same size as an American Black bear.
Which Bear Is the Giant Panda More Closely Related To?
Scientist say the giant panda bear is most closely related to the spectacled bear of South America.
The Giant Panda Bear is a loner. They do not live in groups. Each giant panda lives alone. The only real exception to this is a mother and a cub. Giant Pandas are very devoted and protective mothers. When a giant panda cub is born it only weighs about 4 ounces. When a giant panda cub is born they are blind and bald. Within a couple weeks of birth the skin where the hair will be black begins to turn dark.
We hope you enjoy this giant panda website and pass it on to all your friends. Maybe while you are surfing and enjoying the panda stuff here you will take some time to learn what you personally can do to help Save The Giant Panda from extinction.
Giant pandas are classed as bears by the majority of the world's scientists. Unlike other bears, the giant panda vocalize by bleating rather than roaring. Until recently, giant pandas were grouped with raccoons and lesser pandas. However in the late 1980's, DNA/serological studies clearly established that giant pandas are clearly more bear like than raccoon. Some scientists want to place giant pandas in their own grouping; but for most bear researchers, this does not seem necessary. So for now the Giant Panda is considered by most to a a bear.
